Angela Evelyn Bassett has been an American actress since late 1980s. In the last decade she has been working in television and film. Her work has been recognized with numerous awards including the 16 NAACP Image Awards. Bassett is a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was brought up in Winston-Salem North Carolina by her aunt, who was born at New York New York, is an acclaimed actress. Bassett, her sister, and their mother relocated to St. Petersburg Florida when Bassett was just five. Their father separated from their mom. Bassett chose to become an actress after she saw the play Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, starring James Earl Jones. Yale University New Haven Connecticut awarded her a bachelor's degree (1980), in African American study, and an advanced degree (1983) in the Yale School of Drama. She dated Courtney B. Vance, an actress who was also at Yale and they got married in 1997. Qualification: B.A. Graduated from Yale School of Drama School with a master's degree on African American studies, in the year 1980.
